The Mighty Power of Grassroots Giving: How President Obama's Principles Guide SOOFA Ranch's Vision

My basketball coach used to say, “Many hands, make light work”.  He would say this when we had, a big game ahead of us.  Which basically meant, that we had to work together as a team in order to win.

As we embark on a transformative journey with our ambitious "Ride Strong Multi-Use Community Center," I'm inspired to share the profound impact that grassroots donors can make. Our goal is to raise $1.6 million, and it's an endeavor that calls for the collective spirit of our amazing community. With a fundraising plan broken down into four phases, every small contribution moves us closer to our dream.

This reminds me of the 2011 election. Remember, President Obama's campaign? In 2011, nearly half of his reelection campaign donors gave $200 or less, more than double the proportion seen in 2007, according to the Campaign Finance Institute. This wasn't just a blip on the radar. It was a testament to Obama's strategy, which leveraged a massive 13-million person mailing list from 2008 to engage small donors at an unprecedented pace. The numbers were staggering: $56.7 million raised from small donors, more than some candidates raised in total. This approach wasn't just about funding; it was about building a movement, a collective force of individuals who believed in a cause.

The story of Obama's campaign is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together. It wasn't just about winning an election; it was about mobilizing a community of individuals who believed that their small contributions could lead to monumental change.

The Mighty Power of Grassroots Giving: How President Obama's Principles Guide SOOFA Ranch's Vision

At SOOFA Ranch, we see every donation as a seed of hope and change. Whether it's $5 or $50, your contribution is a vital part of our journey. By joining our monthly giving program, you're not just donating; you're becoming part of a community that believes in making a difference, one small step at a time.

This leads me to 5 reasons why grassroots donors are so crucial:

  • Collective Impact: Just as Obama's campaign showed, when many individuals come together, they can achieve incredible feats. "Many hands make light work," as the saying goes. Each small donation at SOOFA Ranch adds up, fueling our mission and enabling us to reach our goals more efficiently and effectively.

  • Sustainable Support: Monthly donations from grassroots supporters provide a steady, predictable stream of income. This allows us to plan ahead, budget more accurately, and ensure the longevity of our projects.

  • Democratization of Giving: Small-scale donations empower everyone to be a philanthropist, regardless of their financial status. This inclusivity strengthens our community and reflects the collective will to make a difference.

  • Increased Engagement: Grassroots donors are often our most passionate advocates. By investing in our cause, even in small amounts, donors feel a deeper connection and are more likely to engage in other ways, such as volunteering or spreading the word.

  • Resilience Against Economic Fluctuations: Diversifying our donor base with many small donors makes us less dependent on large donations, which can be unpredictable and fluctuate with economic conditions.

Remember, "Many hands make light work." With your support, no matter how small, we can create a space that embodies the strength, resilience, and spirit of our community. Join us in this journey.  As we move through the phases of our fundraising—from the initial $100k to the final push towards $750k—every contribution brings us closer to turning our shared dream into a reality.
